What the audit checks
Every finding is tied to a WCAG 2.2 criterion. Anything a machine can't judge on its own is marked Review, so nobody mistakes it for a pass.
- Text alternatives
- Images, icons and image buttons with no alt text, or alt text that says nothing.
- Color contrast
- Text and controls below the 4.5:1 and 3:1 ratios, measured on the rendered page.
- Forms
- Inputs without labels, and errors that aren't tied to their field.
- ARIA
- Invalid roles, states and properties, checked with axe-core.
- Keyboard and focus
- Controls you can't reach by keyboard, missing focus styles and small touch targets.
- Structure
- Page language, title, heading order and landmarks.
Questions
What does the free audit check?
It loads the page in a real browser and runs axe-core plus our own checks for text alternatives, color contrast, forms, ARIA, keyboard access, target size and page structure, mapped to WCAG 2.2 AA criteria.
Is the audit really free?
Yes. You don't need an account to audit a page and see every finding. An account adds the exact element for each finding, AI fixes, PDF reports under your own name and scan history.
Can an automated audit prove a site is accessible?
No. Automated checks find many common failures, but some WCAG criteria need a person to judge. Findings that need a person are marked Review, and the report says which criteria it could not fully check.
Is this the same engine as the paid plans?
Yes. The free audit and paid scans use the same browser and the same checks. Paid plans add more pages, every site you look after in one list, and reports you can send.
